Sophomore Kate Gallagher is in position for her first career tournament victory as she shot rounds of 71-72--143 to lift the Missouri Women's Golf team into third place at the fifth annual Johnie Imes Invitational hosted at The Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Mo., on Monday.

The Savannah, Mo., native was steady all day, recording seven birdies to stay near the top of the leaderboard. Gallagher actually opened her day with a bogey on No. 2, but birdied No. 6, No. 8 and No. 9 in her opening tour to fuel that 1-under-par 71. She continued to play well in round two, shooting even-par, tying for third place.

Gallagher is just one shot behind individual leaders Brianna Cooper (Illinois State) and Krista Puisite (Texas State) who are 2-under-par. Texas State owns an 11-shot lead in the race for the team crown, ahead of second place Florida International (+20) and the host Tigers (+22).

Missouri also boasts a one-shot advantage over Big 12 foe Kansas State and a 17-shot lead over Kansas.

Senior Hannah Lovelock is second among Tiger scorers, shooting a 1-over-par 145. Like Gallagher, Lovelock was also even-par in her second round, recording three birdies to balance three bogeys.

Ariana Savich is tied for 17th highlighted by a 1-under-par 71 in the first round and as a team Mizzou recorded 27 birdies in the team's Birdies For A Cure Challenge. Proceeds from that event will benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation.

Play at the 2011 Johnie Imes Invitational concludes on Tuesday at 8 a.m.
