Jonesborough, Tenn. - Missouri Golf sits in a tie for third place after opening play today at the 2011 Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. Junior Jace Long (-1) and Freshman Ryan Zech (+2) sit in the top 15, giving Mizzou an advantage in the 15-team tournament.
The Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate is being played at the 7,147 yard, par 72 golf course at the Blackthorn Club at The Ridges in Jonesborough, Tenn. NC State (-1) is leading the tournament by eight strokes after the first round. Virginia is one shot ahead of Missouri (+8), who is tied for third with UNC Wilmington. Tennessee sits close behind Mizzou after hitting 298 on the first round (+9).
Long shot a 71 on the day making back-to-back birdies on the 13th and 14th holes. In total he recorded four birdies on the day and sits just three shots shy NC State's Mark McMillen in first. Hitting +2 for the first round, Zech (74) started off the back nine with two birdies to keep him even with par.
Brad Moody shot a 75 in the first round and totaled two birdies on the day. After starting the day off three over par, Moody was able to shoot even on the back nine to keep him in a tie for No. 24 on the day.
Sophomore Hunter Kraus shot a 76 in the first round to keep him at four over par, and Emilio Cuartero is five over par after the first round. He went six over on the front nine, but powered through with three back-to-back birdies on his last nine holes. He finished the back nine at one under par.
Mizzou Golf heads back out tomorrow for round two of the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate and the team will finish with the final round on Sunday. Tee times for round two start at 8:30 a.m. Keep checking MUTigers.com for more information on Missouri Golf.
