COLUMBIA, Mo. - Former Mizzou pitcher Nick Tepesch has been selected as the Texas Rangers' Minor League Pitcher of the Month for the month of June. Tepesch, who was drafted by the Rangers in the 14th round of the 2010 MLB Draft, went 3-0 in June with a 2.23 ERA with 37 strikeouts against only nine walks while pitching for the Hickory Crawdads, a Class A affiliate for the Rangers. He also held hitters to a .211 average over six starts and threw one complete game in that span. In all, he threw 36.1 innings in June.
So far, Tepesch has put together an impressive season with Hickory. He is 5-3 this season with a 3.30 ERA and 75 strikeouts in 92.2 innings pitched. He was named South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week honors for June 6-12 following a 10-strikeout performance on June 7 against Lakewood. The 10 strikeouts in that game are a minor league career-best for Tepesch. He has started 10 games for Hickory this season.
