Tigers Wrap Up Last Chance Week

March 6, 2011

AMES, Iowa - The Mizzou track and field team will now turn its focus to the NCAA National Indoor Championships after completing action at a pair of Last Chance meets this weekend at Iowa State and Notre Dame. Aaron Dixon (Lee's Summit, Mo.), Kearsten Peoples (Ottawa, Kan.) and Lana Mims (Tulsa, Okla.) all competed at Iowa State while Laura Roxberg (Overland Park, Kan.) and Bailey Belvis (Prosper, Texas) ran at Notre Dame.

Starting in Iowa State, Dixon competed in the men's 800m run and clocked in at 1:50.57 to finish seventh overall in the competition. The time is not an improvement on his season-best clocking of 1:50.22 and will likely leave him shy of qualifying for the NCAA Championships. Peoples competed in the shot put, and like Dixon, posted a very good mark but did not set season-best in the shot put as she placed sixth with a throw of 15.45m (50-8 ¼). Mims also competed at Iowa State, doing so in the women's long jump. One week removed from setting her indoor personal-best in the event, Mims took third overall at 5.79m (19-0) which will likely leave her just shy of a berth to the NCAA Championships.

At Notre Dame, Roxberg placed 13th in the women's mile with a time of 4:48.97 which did not improve her season-best mark in the event, likely leaving her just shy of advancing to the NCAA Championships. Belvis also ran in the mile run and clocked a time of 4:51.48, which will likely not advance her to the NCAA Championships as well.
