Mizzou Falls To Colorado, 58-48

BOULDER, Colo. - The University of Missouri women's basketball team fell to the Colorado Buffaloes 58-48 on Saturday afternoon in Boulder, Colo. Mizzou fell to 9-10 overall and 1-4 in Big 12 Conference play while the Buffaloes improved to 11-7 and 2-3.

Senior RaeShara Brown led the Tigers with 13 points, six assists and also had nine rebounds and two steals. She was joined in double figures by senior Shakara Jones, who had 12. Junior Christine Flores grabbed 10 rebounds and senior Jasmyn Otote nabbed four steals.

The Buffs ran out to a quick 12-2 lead five and a half minutes into the game as the Tigers could not find take advantage of their offensive opportunities.

With Colorado ahead 21-11 after a layup from Rachel Hargis with 9:11 remaining in the first frame, a three-pointer from Otote jumpstarted a Mizzou rally. Jones hit three layups to get the Tigers within one, 21-20, with 2:27 left in the half.

Brittany Spears made a layup to put the Buffs back on top 23-20 but junior BreAnna Brock scored a layup and Otote nailed her third trey of the half to give Missouri its first lead since the first minute. Brown closed out scoring in the first frame with a layup with 54 seconds on the clock to give Mizzou a 27-23 halftime advantage. Overall, the Tigers ended the frame on a 16-2 run and held the Buffaloes to just one field goal over the final nine minutes.

Colorado roaring back early in the second half to grab a seven-point advantage, 38-31, as Spears scored 11 points during the 15-4 Buffs run.

A three from Britney Blythe with 10:58 on the clock gave the Buffs a 41-32 but Mizzou began to find its rhythm and cut into Colorado's advantage. A 9-2 run by the Tigers brought the team within one, 44-43, with 5:41 remaining but the Buffaloes scored the next eight points to increase its lead to 52-43 at the 2:59 mark.

Brown made two straight layups and an ensuing layup to bring Missouri back within 52-48 with 1:52 left but Colorado scored the game's final six points to claim the 58-48 victory.

The Buffaloes, who outrebounded the Tigers 53-41 in the contest, were led by Spears' 26 points.

The Tigers return home to host the Kansas Jawhawks at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at Mizzou Arena.
