The men's swimming and diving team fell to the No. 13 Minnesota Gophers Saturday, 189.00-109.00, as they resumed competition in the new year.
Yaniv Shnaider opened things up for the Tigers with a third place finish in the 200 free, finishing the event in 1:43.21. Mark Conroy also placed third in the 100 breast (57.06). Jason King placed third in the 200 fly with a 1:56.11 finish.
Roko Simunic was a key contributor for Mizzou, beginning his day with a victory in the 100 back (50.23). In the 400 IM, Yaniv Shnaider earned another first place finish for the Tigers, clocking in at 4:02.51. Jowan Qupty placed third in the event at 4:13.85.
John Higgins and Ryan Sellers placed second and third, respoectively, in the 200 back, finishing in 1:52.70 and 1:53.53. Missouri had another duo place second and third as well, as Anders Melin (50.89) and Ryan Sellers (53.02) rounded out the top three in the 100 fly. In the 200 breast, Jowan Qupty swam to a third place finish in 2:07.92.
Missouri's relay teams earned top three finishes, as the 200 free team of Roko Simunic, Mark Conroy, Anders Melin and Jordan Hawley placed second in 1:23.68. The team of Scott Martin, Adam Abernathy, John Krause and Joe Hladik finished third in 1:25.89.
The diving team had an exceptional day in the pool. In the 3 meter competition, David Bonuchi was victorious with a score of 388.20. Dallas Becerra finished third with 366.53 points. In the 1 meter, Dante Jones finished first with 359.17 points.
The Tigers return home Feb. 4 to face Drury. It is the team's Senior Day, and the competition begins at the Mizzou Aquatic Center at 2 p.m.
