FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Mizzou track and field program concluded its regular season schedule as it wrapped up competition at the Arkansas Twilight on Friday (April 30) at John McDonnell Field. In all, Mizzou claimed six event titles in the competition which was run with gusty winds and scattered thunderstorms all day long until an hour-long rain delay at around 3 p.m. Leslie Farmer (Jefferson City, Mo.) turned in the top performance on the day as she broke the school record in the 400m hurdles for the second-straight week after placing second in the event at 59.58. She now ranks 14th regionally in the 400m hurdles.
Sprinter Lana Mims (Tulsa, Okla.) also had a nice day for the Tigers. Starting in the 100m dash, Mims clocked a personal-best time of 12.05 to take sixth place overall. She also ran in the 200m dash, placing third, also with a personal-best time of 24.09, and she ran the third leg on the women's 4x400m relay that clocked in at 3:44.24. In her leg, Mims clocked a 400m split of 54.34 to round out a great day on the track. Despite all of her success on the track, Mims also made time of win the women's long jump with a leap of 6.27m (20-7), also a personal-best in the event. After leading until the sixth round, Mims was passed in that round and needed to clear 6.10m (20-0 ¼) in her final jump. Despite running two sprints, Mims found the strength to do just that as she turned in that personal-best mark to claim the title. She now ranks 15th regionally in the long jump and that mark moves her into fourth place all-time at Mizzou.
Sophomore Blake Irwin (Bettendorf, Iowa) turned in a great performance in the men's 800m run as he won the event title with a time of 1:49.88, a season-best for any Tiger during the 2010 outdoor season. He was also one of only two runners of 31 entries to break the 1:50 barrier in the event. Junior Ricky West (Scarborough, Ontario) placed third in the event at 1:50.18 while Tyrell Everett (Wichita, Kan.) and Aaron Dixon (Lee's Summit, Mo.) ran times of 1:51.73 and 1:52.00, respectively, to finish eighth and ninth.
Layne Moore (Emporia, Kan.) led the Tiger women in the 800m run as she placed sixth at 2:09.45 while teammate Laura Roxberg (Overland Park, Kan.) finished just behind her in seventh after clocking in at 2:11.87. Chelsea Chrisman (Eureka, Mo.) placed 11th at well after finishing in 2:13.71, an outdoor collegiate best of her.
Senior Nick Adcock (Kansas City, Mo.) was the first Tiger to turn in an impressive performance on the track as he clocked in at 14.07 in the 110m hurdles to take third place in the event. His time was a personal-best, topping his previous best mark of 14.13, which was also set this season. Classmate Angela Potrykus (Evergreen, Colo.) followed Adcock's lead as she also set a personal-best time, doing so in the women's 3,000m steeplechase. In fact, Potrykus ran the fastest time by a Tiger in the event this season at 10:42.11, nearly four seconds ahead of her previous best in the event.
The Tigers opened the meet with the women's hammer throw and Melissa Coil (Clark, Mo.) was Mizzou's top finisher in the event as she uncorked a personal-best toss of 51.80m (169-11) on her final attempt of the competition to place fourth.
