COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Missouri wrestling team sent nine Tigers to the UNI Open this past weekend in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and seven returned with medals after placing in the top six.  Sophomore Brent Haynes captured his third tournament championship of the year at 197 pounds, while sophomore Todd Porter finished second at 174.

Haynes improved to 12-0 on the year with a perfect 4-0 day.  He pinned each of his first two opponents in under 3:00 before knocking off Joe Johnson of UNI by a 4-1 decision and Carl Broghammer by a 5-2 score in the finals.  Seven of Haynes' 12 victories have come via fall this season.

Porter took second place after getting three decisions in his first three matches, including a 5-2 win over Iowa's Jeremy Fahler and a 6-5 decision over Mikey England from Iowa State, before falling in the finals to Mike Evans of Iowa.  Porter has placed in three of the four tournaments he's competed in, and this is his second runner-up finish of the year.

Also placing at 174 was junior Patrick Wright, who took third in the class.  Wright knocked off Quinn Wilson of Iowa State by a 7-1 score, and then pinned Iowa Central's Christian Mays in 1:56.  After dropping his next match, 3-1, Wright rallied off two straight decisions to secure third place.

Also placing for Mizzou was Tyler Perry, who placed fourth at heavyweight, Phillip Perry, who took fourth at 165, Nicholas Hucke, finishing fifth at 149 and Weston Keleher, taking sixth at 184.

The Tigers return to action this Sunday, Dec. 12, when they take on the No. 23 Purdue Boilermakers in West Lafayette, Ind.  Stay tuned to mutigers.com for more information.
