Six Tigers Earn Midlands Pre-Seeds

Dec. 22, 2010

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Six Missouri grapplers are among the top eight seeds in their respective weight classes for the Midlands Tournament, as announced Tuesday by the tournament committee.  This year's Midlands, held at the Welsh-Ryan Arena in Evanston, Ill., will take place from Dec. 29-30.

Freshman Alan Waters (125), redshirt freshman Zach Toal (165) and junior Dom Bradley (heavyweight) were each selected as the No. 5 seed in their respective classes.  Senior Todd Schavrien (141) and junior Dorian Henderson (174) were both picked as seven seeds, while sophomore Brent Haynes (197) was named the eighth seed.  Redshirt freshman Kyle Bradley (149) and sophomore Mike Larson (184) were picked as “other contenders” in their classes.

Waters, a true freshman, is a perfect 22-0 on the season and has knocked off four top-30 grapplers.  Toal is 8-4, while Dom Bradley is 13-3.  Schavrien, the reigning Big 12 Wrestler if the Week, is 10-2 on the season with eight straight victories, Henderson  is 12-3, and Haynes is 12-2.  Kyle Bradley sits at 6-5, while Larson's record is currently 12-3.

The 2010 Midlands Tournament Committee has announced the top contenders for the annual event, which takes place at Northwestern University on Dec. 29-30. Although the final seeding for Midlands may extend beyond the top eight at each weight class, the pretournament contenders reflect only the top eight wrestlers and are subject to change. Final seeding for the event will be determined on Tuesday, Dec. 28.
