Columbia, Mo. - Mizzou tennis continues to attend fall tournaments, this time competing in the 2010 USTA/ITA Central Region Championship. Division I competition at the central region will be held at the University of Arkansas Oct. 21-25 at the Dills Indoor Stadium and Billingsley Center.

Tiger qualifiers competing in the singles main draw include Kaitlyn Ritchie, Mallory Weber and Maria Christensen. The doubles teams of Rachel Stuhlmann/Annemijn Koenen, Jamie Mera/Maria Christensen and Ritchie/Weber make up the Tigers participating in the doubles main draw.

Christensen will look to build on her undefeated singles mark. The sophomore already boasts a 7-0 record including titles at Northern Iowa and Central Florida this fall. The senior Ritchie is 3-3 in singles play and finished the Central Florida invite with a straight sets win two weeks ago.

Missouri's top doubles tandem of Ritchie and Weber carry a 5-2 mark into the regional this weekend, including an 8-3 win over Arkansas' top doubles team at UCF. Mera and Christensen enter their second weekend as a doubles pairing and went 2-1 in Orlando.

This USTA/ITA Regional Championship serves as a qualifier for the USTA/ITA National Individual Championship. Both Division I singles and doubles regional champions will advance to the 2010 USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships. This event will be taking place Nov.4-7 at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York.

The Tigers will look to build on their early season success as they compete against nationally ranked teams such as Iowa, Tulsa, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Minnesota, along with Arkansas and others.

Competition at Arkansas runs Oct. 21-25. Play begins at 8:30 a.m. each day.
