AMES, Iowa - The Mizzou track and field program had another solid performance at the Bill Bergan Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 30), claiming four individual event titles and the women's 4x400m relay crown. The women's 4x400m relay team, despite not having Shannon Leinert (Eureka, Mo.), extended its winning streak to four-straight meets as it claimed the event title with a time of 3:46.83, the team's second-best time of the season. The Tiger men also claimed 24 of its team points in the shot put as senior Andy Oaker (Steelville, Mo.) claimed his second-straight shot put title after once again meeting the NCAA provisional qualifying standard at 17.81m (58-5 ¼). The Tigers took four of the top five spots in that event. Overall, the Tiger women finished the scored meet in fifth place with 53 points while the men placed fifth with 42 points in the team competition.
Junior Ryan Blackwell (Fenton, Mo.) highlighted the remaining event winners on the day, clocking in at a personal-best time of 48.11, earning 10 team points for Mizzou. That time is also a season-best for any Tiger in 2010 and ranks him in the Big 12's top 10 this season. Sierra Gant (Wichita, Kan.) also claimed a sprint title for the Tigers, clocking in at 25.02 in the 200m dash, just off of her career-best in the event. However, her time is still a season-best in the event for the Tigers. Freshman Katie Evans (Powersville, Mo.) also won the women's shot put with a throw of 14.77m (48-5 ½), earning 10 more points for the women in the team competition.
Senior Lana Mims (Tulsa, Okla.) also turned in a great performance on the short track as she earned second place overall in the women's 400m dash, clocking in at 56.00, an indoor personal-best and a season-best for the Tigers in 2010. It also ranks her 10th in the Big 12 this season. Mims just missed claiming the event title by 0.03 seconds. She also finished third in the women's long jump with a leap of 5.53m (18-1 ¾), earning 14 points for the Tiger women in the team competition.
The Tigers continued to see success in the sprints as the men's 4x400m relay team took third overall at 3:13.75, just shy of an NCAA provisional qualifying time, but still a season-best for the foursome.
As mentioned earlier, the Tigers dominated the men's shot put, taking four of the top five spots in the event. Oaker won the event with an NCAA provisional mark of 17.81m (58-2 ¼), his second-best mark of the season. Freshman Corey Jones (Boonville, Mo.) placed second overall with a toss of 17.14m (56-3) while fellow freshman Brooks Mosier (Lee's Summit, Mo.) finished two spots behind him in fourth after measuring in at 16.48m (54-1). Holly was not the only Tiger on the men's side to set a personal-best in their respective event finals as freshman Tucker Bounds (Columbia, Mo.) jumped 6.95m (22-9 ¾) to take fifth overall in the long jump. Bounds also placed ninth in the triple jump at 12.79m (41-11 ½) while teammate Marcus Ferguson (Waynesville, Mo.) placed one spot ahead of him in eighth at 13.22m (43-4 ½).
