Into the second day of action and facing improved competition, Mizzou Tennis continued its outstanding play at the Northern Iowa Invitational on Saturday, as Mallory Weber and Kaitlyn Ritchie advanced to the semifinals of the Platinum Flight in Waterloo, Iowa.
The Tiger seniors each rallied from opening-set defeats to win their matches and are just one win away from meeting in the finals. Weber fell 6-7 to Laia Gonzalez of Northern Iowa in the first set, but won 7-6, 6-3 to advance. Ritchie lost 2-6 in her opening set, but rallied 6-4, 6-4 and will meet Iowa's Sonja Molnar.
Sophomore Maria Christensen also faired well, toppling North Dakota's Callie Ronkowski 6-2, 6-0 in the Silver Flight, while Annemijn Koenen topped Iowa's Ally Majercik 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 to reach the semifinals of the Bronze Flight.
In doubles play the tandem of Ritchie and Weber finished second in the Platinum Flight to highlight Missouri's solid afternoon.
Action at the Northern Iowa Invitational concludes on Sunday in Waterloo, Iowa.
