Mizzou/Texas A&M Post-Game Notes
The win was Mizzou's first five-set match of the season. The five-set win marks the first time since Oct. 1, 2005, that the Tigers have come back from a 2-0 deficit in a five-set match.
The win improves the Tigers to 6-0 at home this season, their best home record since they opened the 2003 campaign at 8-0.
The Tigers set a season-high in blocks with 18, highlighted by a season-best six from Lei Wang-Francisco (Shanghai, China). Their previous best came in the season-opening match against Texas State on Aug. 28.
Mizzou's 96 digs were a also season-best. The Tigers' previous season-best came against Kansas when they pulled in 73 as a team.
With a team-high 29 digs, junior libero Caitlyn Vann (Muncie, Ind.) passed Margaret Yanics for seventh place of the Tigers' career list. Vann now has 1,092 digs in her Mizzou career. Her 29 digs are a season-best.
Junior outside hitter Paola Ampudia (Cali, Colombia), the Big 12 Rookie of the Week each of the past two weeks, continued her strong play with a career-high 19 kills and four digs. Combined with Mizzou's win Wednesday over UMKC, Ampudia finished the week with 28 kills and 11 digs.
Ampudia was one of two Tigers to finish with 19 kills in the match as Julianna Klein (Keota, Iowa) also hit the 19-kill mark. The 19 kills are the most by a Tiger hitter this season.
Sophomore defensive specialist Priscilla Armendariz (Blue Springs, Mo.) set a season-high with 21 digs. Her previous best was 14 at Utah Valley. Armendariz joined Caitlyn Vann (Muncie, Ind.) as one of two Tigers to post 20 digs in the match, marking the first time that that has happened for Mizzou this season.
Senior setter Lei Wang-Francisco (Shanghai, China) had a season-best 17 digs, topping her previous best mark of 12 which came at Oklahoma last Saturday.
Senior middle hitter Amanda Hantouli (Omaha, Neb.) finished the match with five kills, her best mark since posting six against Ole Miss in the second match of the season.
Texas A&M came into the match leading the Big 12 in kills (15.30 per set) and second in the league in hitting percentage (.301). The Tiger defense held the Aggie attack to an average of 11.60 kills per set on .111 hitting.
Individually, the Tigers held A&M's stars in check. Freshman middle blockers Alisia Kastmo and Lindsey Miller, who came into the match ranked first and third respectively in the Big 12 in hitting percentage, were held to .238 and .200.
Aggie senior setter Kristen Schevikhoven, who entered the match second in the conference in assists at 12.00 per set, was held to 52 for the match, an average of 10.4 per set.
A&M senior outside hitter Sarah Ammerman, who came into tonight's action ranked second in scoring at 4.68 points per set, was held to 18 for the match, a clip of 3.6 per frame.
Two Tigers - Lei Wang-Francisco (Shanghai, China) and Julianna Klein (Keota, Iowa) - posted double-doubles in the match. Wang-Francisco passed out 50 assists and pulled in 17 digs while Klein finished with 19 kills and 13 digs.
