- Competing in its first ever Women's College World Series, Georgia (45-11) picked up its first win in the event to stay alive in the losers' bracket to face Michigan today at 6 p.m. CDT in Game 9.
- Kristyn Sandberg extended Georgia's lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run home run. She scored Brianna Hesson, who reached by fielder's choice.
- The home run was Sandberg's ninth of the season, one off the Bulldogs' freshman record. It was the 79th round-tripper this season for the Bulldogs, who last year managed just 26 homers.
- Georgia's first run of the game came in the top of the first when Alisa Goler singled to score Taylor Schlopy. Schlopy reached by walk earlier in the inning and advanced to third on a passed ball.
- Goler's RBI was her school-record 80th of the season and the 121st of her career.
- Kristin Schnake registered a two-run double in the bottom of the fifth frame to score Schlopy and Lisaira Daniels to push UGA's lead to 5-0. The two RBIs increased Schnake's total to 61 this season.
- Bulldogs pitcher Christie Hamilton (25-9) recorded the win, giving up five hits and two earned runs in seven innings of work. It marked the senior's 21st complete game this year.
- Missouri got on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning with a two-run single by Marla Schweisberger, scoring Michaele Vock and Kathryn Poet. Schweisberger ended her sophomore season with 48 RBIs.
- Tigers pitcher Stacy Delaney relieved Chelsea Thomas in the bottom of the fifth frame. Thomas (16-7), who took the loss for the Tigers, went four innings, gave up three hits and five runs.
- Missouri, the first team to be eliminated in this year's WCWS, ended its season with a 50-12 overall record and a 0-2 mark this week in its fourth trip (first in 15 years) to the WCWS.
- Georgia improved to 42-2 when scoring first this season and to 8-4 at neutral sites.
- Today's win was Georgia's first in three tries against Missouri all-time.
- Missouri stranded six runners on base while the Bulldogs left five.
