COLUMBIA, Mo. - Missouri seniors Crystal Wagner and Michelle Collins earned weekly honors this week, after an impressive weekend in which the Tigers outscored their opponents by a combined score of 6-0.
Wagner was awarded Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors, as announced by the conference on Tuesday. Last Friday, Oct. 16, Wagner anchored the defense in the team's 5-0 rout of Baylor in Waco, Texas. The Tigers gave up just five shots in the shutout, only one of which was on goal. The following Sunday against Oklahoma, Wagner held Whitney Palmer, one of the nation's leading scorers, goalless in the Tigers 1-0 victory on the road.
Collins was pegged as one of CollegeSoccer360.com's Primetime Performers of the Week. Collins scored the game-winning goal for the Tigers against Oklahoma just 27 seconds into the second overtime period. Collins currently leads the team in goals (6) and points (16) in 2009.
The Tiger's return to Walton Stadium for their final home stand of the regular season this Friday, Oct. 23, when they take on the Cyclones of Iowa State at 6:30 p.m.
