Missouri wrestler Maxwell Askren (Hartland, Wis.) was named to the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) All-Academic Division I team as announced Thursday afternoon. The annual academic accolade is the third of his career.

Askren, Missouri's 197-pound starter, is a two-time All-American who carries a 3.34 grade-point average in general studies. One of eight Big 12 grapplers named to the All-Academic team, Askren finished fifth at the 2009 NCAA Championships held in St. Louis, Mo.

The 2008-09 All-Academic individual team is highlighted by a total of 51 NCAA Qualifiers, 17 NCAA All-Americans, eight NCAA Finalist and five NCAA Champions. In total 73 individuals representing 45 schools are being honored this year on the All-Academic Team.
