Waco, Texas - Improving to 2-1 in Big 12 action, the 13th ranked Missouri softball team used two runs on three hits to come from behind and best Baylor, 2-1, at Getterman Stadium in Waco, Texas. Senior pitcher Stacy Delaney (Freeland, Mich.) was credited with the win, her sixth of the season and first of 2009 against a league opponent. Delaney struck out six batters in her fifth complete game of the year.
Baylor took a one run lead in an error-filled second inning. Back-to-back fielding errors by Missouri allowed the Lady Bear runners to load the bases for leadoff batter Tiffany Wesley. Wesley hit a two out RBI single driving in pinch runner Sophia Lujan from third base. Delaney finished off the inning by forcing a ground out to Missouri third baseman Lindsey Ubrun (Riverside, Calif.).
Sophomore catcher Megan Christopher (Wright City, Mo.) hit the game-tying home run in the top of the sixth inning. Swinging on a 2-2 count, Christopher crushed her third home run of season into the parking lot located behind the left field wall. The solo shot broke up Baylor pitcher Whitney Canion's five inning no hitter.
Pinch runner Shana White (Columbia, Mo.) scored the go ahead run for Missouri in the top of the seventh inning. Running for redshirt junior Gina Schneider (Liberty, Mo.), who led off the inning and reached base after being hit by pitch, White reached second on senior Micaela Minner's (Sanger, Texas) ground out to third, scoring on Marla Schweisberger's (Raytown, Mo.) RBI single up the middle. Schweisberger is batting .552 on the year with runners in scoring position.
Missouri will play game two of its series with Baylor beginning at Noon (CT) Sunday, March 29. The Tigers will face their next Big 12 opponent, Wednesday, April 1, in a doubleheader against Kansas beginning at 4 p.m. (CT) in Lawrence.
