Myrtle, Beach, S.C. - The 14th-ranked Missouri softball team opened play in the Coastal Carolina tournament with a 9-0 win in five innings over host school Coastal Carolina. Combining for 13 hits, the Tigers scored at least one run in each inning, with three in the fourth to win their 13th game of the season by run rule. Senior pitcher Stacy Delaney (Freeland, Mich.) collected her third win of the season and now stands at 3-1on the year with a 1.04 ERA. The Tiger pitcher struck out five Chanticleers, bringing her season total to 37 in 33.2 innings.
Senior Lindsey Ubrun's (Riverside, Calif.) three run homerun in the top of the fourth frame helped Missouri increase its lead over Coastal Carolina by a score of 8-0. With two outs on the board, the Tiger third baseman powered her second homerun of the season, the 18th of her Missouri career, over the fence in right center. Batting in the five hole, Ubrun drove in Andee Allen (Barnhart, Mo.) and Gina Schneider (Liberty, Mo.) from second and first base, respectively. Earlier in the inning, Allen reached base on balls, while Schneider ripped a single to shortstop.
Ubrun closed out the game with five RBI, pushing across two runs in the top of the first with her two out single to left field.
Leadoff batter Rhea Taylor (Buford, Ga.) finished the game 3-for-4 and scored one run for the Tigers. Taylor stole second in the first inning after reaching base on a leadoff single to shortstop. To date, Taylor is a perfect 10-of-10 on stolen bases bringing her career total to 67, which places her ninth in the Missouri career stolen base record book.
Delaney held the Chanticleers to only two hits, singles, in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Tigers will return to tournament action when they take on Michigan State beginning at 8:30 a.m. (CT) Saturday, March 14. Missouri will play two games on Saturday, the second coming against 15th-ranked North Carolina at 11 a.m. (CT).
