ARLINGTON, Texas -- Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler began Wednesday with a shopping spree at Toys "R" Us to benefit the 2008 Toys for Tots drive. On Wednesday afternoon he was named the 2008 winner of the Rangers' prestigious Jim Sundberg Community Achievement Award.

"Ian Kinsler devotes a great deal of time to this community, as is evidenced by his work with Toys for Tots and other initiatives," club president Nolan Ryan said. "I congratulate him for receiving this year's Jim Sundberg Community Achievement Award, which is one of the biggest honors that the Rangers present."

Kinsler and wife Tess are serving for the third consecutive season as the Rangers Ambassadors for the Toys for Tots program.

Each year, the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program results in the collection of thousands of new, unwrapped toys that are distributed to needy children and families in North Texas. Between now and Thursday, Dec. 11, individuals can drop off new unwrapped toys at either the Texas Rangers Grand Slam Gift Shop at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington or the Rangers Dallas Sales Office at 2222 McKinney Ave., Suite 148 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. CT.

The 2008 Toys for Tots Finale will take place on Thursday, Dec. 11 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington in Vandergriff Plaza from 5-10 p.m. Current and former Rangers players will be on hand to sign autographs and local musical groups will sing carols. Other activities will include pictures with Santa Claus, face painting, and other games and crafts. Free food and beverages will be provided by SportService.

Kinsler will receive his award at the Sluggers of the West Awards Dinner on Friday, Jan. 23, at Eddie Deen's Ranch in Dallas. For tickets go to texasrangers.com or call (817) 436-5933.
