Mizzou Men's Golf Inks Will Nixon to NLI

Nov. 14, 2008

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Will Nixon of Jefferson City (Mo.) High School has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Mizzou men's golf team, as announced by MU Head Coach Mark Leroux. Nixon finished tied for sixth at the 2008 Missouri State Class 4 Championships with rounds of 76 and 73. In 2007, he took 15th place at the State Tournament.

Nixon placed fifth out of 72 golfers in the AJGA John Deere Classic in June and took eighth out of a field of 179 at the Missouri Boys Junior Amateur Championship in July.

"We are excited to have Will join our program," Leroux said. "Will has the potential to be a high-level player for us. It is always important that we continue to keep the top golfers from Missouri in-state."

At last year's MGA Collegiate Preview, Nixon shot a second-round 68 at The Club at Old Hawthorne, which at the time set a new competitive course record. In addition, Nixon helped the Missouri team win the Ozark Junior Challenge, which is a team competition with junior golfers from Kansas. He is ranked No. 4 in Missouri by the National Junior Golf Scoreboard.

Nixon is the son of Missouri Governor-Elect Jay Nixon.
