COLUMBIA, Mo.— The Missouri cross country teams will begin the serious part of its 2008 campaign on Saturday with runs at the Roy Griak Invitational in St. Paul, Minn., and Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational, in Chicago. The Tiger men will face five nationally-ranked teams in the elite Gold 8k race at Minnesota's meet while the Tiger women will face 10 other NCAA Division I teams in its 5-k run on the Lake Michigan shore.

USTFCCCA Midwest Regional Rankings
In the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA) preseason coaches' poll for the Midwest region, the Tiger men and women are ranked fifth and ninth, respectively. Oklahoma State was picked first in the preseason on the men's side, followed by Minnesota, Iowa State, Tulsa, and then Mizzou. The Gophers are the top pick on the women's side with Illinois, Nebraska, Iowa, and Tulsa rounding out the top five.
The NCAA Midwest Regional Championships will be held at Oklahoma State on November 15. The top two teams from each of the NCAA's seven regions earn automatic bids to the NCAA Cross Country Championships that will be held November 24 in Terre Haute, Ind.
