Missouri in Fifth in Season-Opening Tournament

FARMINGTON, Pa. -The Mizzou men's golf team opened its 2008-09 schedule on Sunday, shooting a round of 303 on the opening day of the Rutherford Intercollegiate at the Nemacolin Report Mystic Rock Golf Course in Farmington, Pa. The round of 303 puts the Tigers in a tie for fifth place with Richmond. Miami (OH) leads after carding a 289 on Sunday.

Sophomore Will Hogan turned in the best round of the day for Missouri, with an even-par 72, which included a two-under 35 on his first nine holes. Hogan stands in fifth place in the individual standings

The other three counting scores for Mizzou were all 77's, turned in by seniors Peter Malnati and Ryne Fisher and sophomore William Harrold. Those three Tigers are among a group tied for 29th place. Freshman Jace Long, competing in his first collegiate tournament, shot a 79 on Sunday.

Aaron Crist of Miami (OH) leads after an opening round of three-under 69.

Round two will be played on Monday with the final round scheduled for Tuesday.
