COLUMBIA, Mo. - One person's smelly sneakers could be another child's playground... seriously. Mizzou Basketball and the Missouri Student-Athlete Advisory Council are partnering with the Nike Reuse-A-Shoe program with the hopes that Tiger fans attending Wednesday's night's Men's Basketball contest against Iowa State will bring an old pair of athletic shoes to donate to the cause.
Any brand of athletic shoe will be accepted (no cleats please) and fans donating shoes will receive a coupon good for one box of popcorn from the Mizzou Arena concession stand.
Collection bins will be available at the entrances of Mizzou Arena and members of Missouri's Student-Athlete Advisory Council will be on site to provide assistance.
Since the inception of the Reuse-A-Shoe program in 1993, better than 20 million pairs of athletic shoes have been recycled and turned into more than 250 sport surfaces across the globe. This program is giving thousands of young people access to new playgrounds and athletic facilities.
