Missouri Softball Team Falters to BYU, 4-0

Las Vegas, Nev. -The Missouri softball team (3-4) suffered a 4-0 loss to BYU in their second game of the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. BYU scored all four of its runs, three earned, in the top of the seventh inning, handing senior pitcher Jen Bruck (St. Peters, Mo.) her first loss of the season. The Tigers managed only one hit in the game, a third inning single down the left field line by freshman designated hitter Shana White (Columbia, Mo.).

Scoreless through six innings, Bruck held BYU to only two hits through six innings before giving up five hits in the top of the seventh. A leadoff single by first baseman Daniela Snow, followed by a home run by third baseman Angeline Quiocho gave the Cougars a two run lead. The scoring continued as Caschjen Davis singled through the right side and Amanda Vance singled through the left side. Both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt laid down by Stephanie Platt Hopkins and Vance and Davis both scored on a throwing error by Tiger third baseman Gina Schneider (Liberty, Mo.).

Bruck struck out six batters and forced 11 groundouts in seven innings of work. At the plate, Bruck reached base on balls in the second inning and advanced to second on senior Amanda Renth's (Mascoutah, Ill.) strikeout. The Tiger pitcher was caught stealing on her way to third, bringing Missouri's first scoring opportunity of the game to an end.

Missouri will take on UC Davis Saturday, Feb. 16 at 5 p.m. (CT) followed by a 7:30 p.m. (CT) game against Cal Poly. Both games will mark first time meetings between Missouri and each of its opponents.
