Tigers Win Two to Start CenturyTel Premier

SAN MARCOS, Texas--The University of Missouri volleyball team (5-2) won a pair of matches Friday in the CenturyTel Premier, hosted by Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. This morning, the Tigers swept Cal State-Fullerton (3-4) before defeating Houston in four games. Julianna Klein led Mizzou with 19 kills in the first match of the day and Na Yang also had 19 to lead the Tigers in the second match.
Evening: Missouri 3, Houston 1
The Tigers defeated Houston in the nightcap, 29-31, 30-22, 30-15, 30-21.
Despite having a 20-14 lead, Mizzou gave up a 17-9 run to the Cougars to drop the first set. In game three, sophomore Julianna Klein was taken out of the game after hyper extending her knee. She did not return.
Before being taken out, Klein had scored her fourh-straight double-double with 15 kills, on .314 hitting, adding 10 digs.
Na Yang led the Tigers in the Houston match with 19 kills on an impressive .381 hitting strike. Freshman Weiwen Wang sccored 12 kills on .360 hitting and added five blocks. Freshman Catie Wilson tallied a career-best nine kills.
Lei Wang tallied 55 assists as Mizzou hit .312 as a team, hitting .432 in the second frame. Senior Tatum Ailes had 14 digs with frosh Caitlyn Vann the third Tiger in double-digit dig total with 11.
Mizzou had seven service aces in the game.
Morning: Missouri 3, Cal State-Fullerton 0
In the Tigers' first match of the day, Mizzou (4-2) dispatched the Titans of Cal State-Fullerton (3-4) 30-24, 30-20, 30-17.
Sophomore Julianna Klein led Mizzou with 19 kills on .368 hitting. Klein scored her third-consecutive double-double in adding 10 digs in the match. Klein also had two aces in the match.
Senior Na Yang scored 16 kills on .433 hitting strike. Freshman Weiwen Wang added three of Mizzou's seven aces. Sophomore Lei Wang spread 34 assists in leading the Tigers to a .370 average in the match and a .567 average in game two.
The Tigers were down in game one 21-20 before a six-point serving run by Julianna Klein, which included two aces that gave Mizzou a 26-21 lead.
Tomorrow the Tigers play the host, Texas State, at Noon.
