Tigers Fall to Syracuse, 5-2

Syracuse, NY - The University of Missouri women's tennis team lost to Syracuse, 5-2, Saturday afternoon in New York. The Tigers drop to 5-8 overall, and the team has lost five in a row.
Mizzou Head Coach Blake Starkey believed the match was closer than the score indicated.
"It went down to the wire today, it was really close, but hopefully we'll bounce back against Army tomorrow."
The day started off with the doubles matches, where Mizzou's Katelyn McKenzie and Raquel Wagner earned a victory at the No. 2 spot against Catherine Zawadzki and Chelsea Jones, 9-7. But Erika Josbena and Amanda Pratzel lost at No. 1, 8-4, to Olga Votavova and Maria Vasilyeva, and Chrissy Svetlic and Kaitlin Dunham fell at No. 3, as Syracuse jumped out to a 1-0 lead.
There were a couple of bright spots for the Tigers Saturday, as McKenzie and Dunham earned singles victories. McKenzie won her match at No. 6, defeating Chelsea Jones, 6-4, 6-1, and At No. 4, Dunham defeated Carolina Huignard, 5-7, 7-5, 10-7, to earn her second win of the season at the No. 4 spot.
The two singles wins were not enough, however, as the Orange secured their fifth victory of the season, and their second in a row by earning victories at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 singles. Pratzel and Svetlic lost their matches at No. 1 and No. 2 in two sets. At the No. 3 spot, Josbena won the first set, 6-0, but fell in the second, 6-2, and the third, 6-4, to lose her match. Wagner lost her match at No. 5 to give Syracuse their fifth point. She fell to Lipton, 6-4, 5-7, 10-5.
