Missouri 165-pounder Nicholas Marable stopped by Monday, Nov. 19, to take your questions. A native of Collierville, Tenn., Marable is ranked as high as 12th in the nation.
The weekly MatChat session is a season-long campaign in which various TigerStyle wrestlers and staff will stop by to answer whatever questions you throw at them! | Gunnar: I am 9 years old and I worked the Missouri Open all day yesterday.
I was the tapper for the referees yesterday. I was happy to see you win your match on my mat. Thanks for taking time to say hi to me when you were done. I enjoy wrestling and I hope for good things this year out of the MU team. |

Nicholas Marable: Thanks! I enjoyed all of the support from the fans yesterday. Better see you out in the crowd on Jan. 4 (Missouri's home opening dual against Bucknell at 7 p.m.). |

| puzzeled in kc: Congratulations on a great start to the season. You had a tremendous MU Open and seem to get better every week. You have a very complicated and complete approach to your game, 6-7 go to takedowns, a host of reversal possibilities and you're an absolute beast on top with an unstoppable cradle series. I'd have to say that your wrestling IQ is genious level. Nick, how much credit goes to natual ability and how much to hard work and intelligence? PS...Any truth to the rumor that you ran 7 miles after the MU Open to get ready for LV? |

Nicholas Marable: I'd say that natural ability helps a tremendous amount with me. It fits into my wrestling style. A lot of credit goes to hard work. I spend six days out of the week practicing...sometimes twice a day. I like to think that I'm an intelligent wrestler. That's not true, that's one thing I don't like doing...running. |

| Drew Bappe (Columbia): I didn't get a chance to say congratulations after you stuck Smith-Bergsrud in the finals. Way to go! What do you plan to work on to improve your offense against tall, lanky guys that don't like to tie-up? |

Nicholas Marable: That's going to be something that me and my coaches are going to have to work on. I'm not sure yet, but I'm about to go into practice so I'm sure we'll have a conversation about that. It doesn't matter what kind of style it is. I think I'm the type of person that will always find a way to win. |

| Bob, Columbia: OK, so I live in town but wasn't able to make it to the finals of the Open. What exactly transpired in your final match? 46 seconds to pin a top-ranked guy! That's amazing! Good luck with the rest of your season. |

Nicholas Marable: I took a slappy shot...and then I came up, he pushed, then he took a double, my good positioning caught him in an over-under and threw him to his back. And, that was the match...

| Larry (Ohio): Nick, congrats on the great start to your season! Do you ever wish you'd stayed at 157 pounds? Do you think you'll move back after Chandler graduates? |

Nicholas Marable: No. I wrestle much better at 165. I don't ever plan on going back down to 157 because it's a tough cut for me. I think 165 is a good weight class for me. |

| Drew, CoMo: Who is your real competition in the practice room...or who pushes you the hardest? |
|
|
Nicholas Marable: Well, when Ben's there he definitely works me the hardest. But...me and Michael Chandler always battle in the practice room and push each other. |
|
|
| Mike (Blue Springs): What do you think are some of your strengths on the mat this year? How do you work to become a better, well-rounded wrestler? |
|
|
Nicholas Marable: One of my strengths is my athletic ability. Then, my positioning and defense open up a lot for my offense. I'd say that I need to improve on everything. The biggest things are my offense and mat work. |

| Mark (Lands): Any big plans for Thanksgiving? I'm guessing Tennessee is a little far of a drive to head home? |

|
Nicholas Marable: Memphis is only about five and a half hours away. So, I'm planning on going home Wednesday after practice and coming back for Saturday night practice. It's my little sister's birthday. |

| Tom (Hardin): Is it true your brother's on the UTC team? What's that like when the two teams wrestle each other? Hard? Good luck this season... |

Nicholas Marable: Well, my brother quit this year to focus more on school. But, I'm so used to being on this team and him being my brother it would definitely be hard to cheer against him. |
|
|
| Heather (Omaha): Do you guys get any time off around the holidays? Or is wrestling a 24-7 kind of sport? |
|
|
Nicholas Marable: Yeah...we get a couple of days off around Thanksgiving and this year we get to go home for eight days for Christmas. But, it is a very time-consuming sport. Even while I'm at home, I'm going to be working out to be ready for our next competition. |

| James (Fort Lauderdale): Great job so far this year Nick. Judging by what I have heard from Mizzou folks, I understand you have a certain charm with the ladies. Would you consider yourself "The Ladies Man" of Mizzou wrestling. |

Nicholas Marable: Well, James...someone had to take over for J.P.'s spot. |

| Steve (Columbia): ...so are you saying you are not focused on schools? |
|
|
Nicholas Marable: No. I'm very focused on school and wrestling, but I've found a good balance between my time to do well in both of them. |
|

|
