COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Senior Na Yang led the Missouri volleyball team with 19 kills on Saturday night in a four-game loss at the hands of Texas A&M in College Station. Yang moves to third on the Tiger all-time season-kill list (476), passing three others on the evening to be within one of Shen Danru for second on the season list. A&M won the match 30-28, 27-30, 30-22, 30-22.
Frosh Weiwen Wang scored 18 kills, adding six digs. Megan Wilson notched 12 kills in also adding three solo blocks.
Tatum Ailes tallied 22 digs while frosh Caitlyn Vann added 18. Lei Wang had a double-double with 37 assists and 10 digs.
Mizzou had trouble with its footing in game one, never gaining a clear advantage. The Tigers, down 28-24 came back off the serving of Tatum Ailes to tie the game at 28-28. Both teams hit .264, but the Tigers did not record a block in the frame.
The Tigers fought back from a considerable deficit in game two. Down 21-16, Mizzou used a 10-2 run, which included a Catie Wilson ace, to corral the Aggies and take a 25-23 lead. The teams would sideout to force a Tiger game point at 29-27. A potiental dump-kill by Aggie setter Kristen Schevikoven was nullified by her body touching the net, giving the Tigers a game two win. Yang had seven kills in the frame for the Tigers.
A&M took a hold of game three early and never looked back, leading by as much as 17-7, 21-9, and 25-12 before the Tigers went on a 9-2 run to pull back to 27-21 after a Catie Wilson ace. But, it was too little, too late as the Aggies closed the book with kills on three-of-the-next four points to win 30-22.
The Tigers were up 12-11 in game four before a 9-1 run by the Aggies spoiled the day. The Tigers tried with two more points, but a five-run service run by A&M put the score at 24-16. The Aggies won game four 30-22, hitting .364 in the frame.
The road trip for the Tigers will continue on Wednesday as Mizzou will travel to take on Oklahoma before closing the regular season next Saturday versus Colorado at home at 1 p.m.
