No. 8 USC Bests Creighton, 3-0, in First Round of NCAA Soccer

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The eighth-ranked USC women's soccer team advanced to the second round of NCAA Tournament play after holding off Creighton, 3-0, in a first round contest at Walton Stadium in Columbia, Mo. Scoring all three goals in the second half, the Women of Troy dominated the Bluejays, and out-shot Creighton, 37-4.

Scoreless through the first half, junior forward Amy Rodriguez connected on the first goal of the game 49 seconds into the second half. Taking an assist from freshmen midfielder Meghan Ohai (Draper, Utah), the play began on a corner kick by freshman midfielder Ashli Sandoval (Jamul, Calif.). Rodriguez leads the Trojans with eight goals on the season, while Sandoval owns a team-leading eight assists.

Second-seeded USC scored its second goal 53:24 into the game on a shot by sophomore midfielder Marihelen Tomer (Diamond Bar, Calif.). Senior forward Lauren Brown (Chino Hills, Calif.) turned and shot USC's third goal from 15 yards out. The ball deflected off of the Creighton defender before going into the net.

USC's offense dominated the field, managing 21 shots in the first half alone. With its first real scoring threat coming 15 minutes into the game, freshman Trojan midfielder Alyssa Davila took back-to-back shots on goal with both blocked by senior Creighton defender Ally Peetz.

Creighton goalie Kristen Casey (Omaha, Neb.) recorded eight saves on the night bringing her junior season total to 84.

Creighton was credited with its first shot on goal 65 minutes into the game by sophomore defender Eden Hingwing of Burnaby, British Columbia. Hingwing tallied two shots, one of which was on goal. Sophomore forward Jordan Bruch (Papillion, Neb.) and senior mid-fielder Tristan Moser-Bleil (Minneapolis, Minn.) were each credited with a shot, Bruch's for goal.
