Women Earn Top 20 Ranking in First CSCAA Poll

Oct. 23, 2007

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Missouri women's swimming and diving team (1-1, 0-1 Big 12) made a splash in the national rankings Tuesday when it received a No. 20 ranking in the initial College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Top 25 Poll. The team's Top 20 ranking is as a high a ranking as the program has ever received. The Tiger men (1-1, 1-0 Big 12) were awarded 31 votes in Tuesday's rankings, putting them second among teams outside of the Top 25 receiving votes.

"The women's Top 20 ranking is a great start for us," said Missouri Head Coach Brian Hoffer. "I am very proud of the way both our men and women have performed thus far and against teams that are all ranked among the nation's Top 25. I attribute it to all of the hard work everyone has put forth in preparing for the season and up to this point. I have been impressed with our leadership as well."

The Mizzou women defeated No. 23 Indiana by a score of 150-93 to open the season on Oct. 12 and competed well in their Oct. 20 loss to No. 6 Texas A&M (158-116).

On the men's side, the Tigers opened the season with a loss to No. 8 Indiana (141-102) on Oct. 12, but bounced right back with a huge conference win (132-111) against a team that now stands ahead of them in the polls, No. 22 Texas A&M.

The women next jump into action against archrival Kansas on Friday at 6 p.m. in Lawrence. The men return to the pool, Nov. 2-4, when both Tiger squads host the Mizzou Dual Challenge at the Mizzou Aquatics Center.

The next CSCAA Top 25 Poll results will be released on Nov. 1.
