AMES, Iowa - The Missouri volleyball team (7-6, 0-3 Big 12) dropped their third-straight decision Saturday to a defensive-rich Iowa State (9-5, 3-1 Big 12) team in Ames, Iowa, 27-30, 30-24, 30-26, 26-30, 16-14. Although the Tigers won game one and fought back in game five to tie the score after down 14-7, Mizzou falls to 0-3 in Big 12 play for the first time since 1998. Lei Wang (Shanghai, China) recorded the second 20-20 performance of her career.
Wang, the Tiger setter, grabbed a team-high and career-high 24 digs, adding 30 assists as Mizzou continued to employ the 6-2 offense with Luiza Jarocka adding as the second setter. Wang also had seven kills in the right-side hitting position and added four blocks. Jarocka had the first double-double of her Tiger career with 10 digs to go with 16 assists.
Mizzou was led by freshman Weiwen Wang (Nanjing, China) who scored on 18 kills on 67 attempts. Megan Wilson and Na Yang added 16 and 13 kills respectively.
Defense was the name of the game as Tatum Ailes also added 18 digs with two service aces. In addition, freshman Shayli Meyer (Sioux City, Iowa) grabbed a career-high 10 digs.
Iowa State was led by Erin Boeve who scored 22 kills, adding five of Iowa State's 17.5 blocks.
Mizzou was down 14-7 in game five, but with a Lei Wang service run, pulled the score back to even at 14-all before the Cyclones closed the match with two straight.
The Cyclones have now won two-in-a-row over the Tigers, and won their first over Mizzou in Ames since 1996.
Mizzou will next travel to Manhattan, Kan., to take on No. 16 Kansas State on Wednesday.
