Columbia, Mo. - The University of Missouri women's soccer team (4-0-0, 0-0-0 Big 12) moved up from 23rd to 20th in this week's SoccerTimes.com Top 25 poll. Mizzou has also moved up to 21st from 26th in the SoccerBuzz.com National Top-30 rankings and up to 23rd from 25th in the Soccer America Women's Top 25. The Tigers are receiving votes in the National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA)/adidas National Rankings.
In the Central Region, Mizzou moved up one spot to fourth from fifth in the SoccerBuzz poll, and stayed at No. 6 in the NSCAA/adidas Regional Rankings.
The Tigers went 2-0 on the weekend to remain undefeated on the young season. Friday (Sept. 7), they shut out Iowa, 2-0, in Iowa City and Sunday (Sept. 9) they shut out Eastern Illinois, 3-0, at home. The defense did not give up a shot or a corner kick in Sunday's win, the first time that's happened at Walton Stadium since 2001.
Mizzou will face two very tough opponents this weekend in the Stanford Invitational, No. 1 Stanford Friday (Sept. 14) and No. 3 Santa Clara Sunday (Sept. 16). Stanford is ranked No. 1 in the NSCAA/adidas National Rankings and in the SoccerTimes.com Top 25 poll. They are No. 2 in the SoccerBuzz.com National Top-30 and No. 3 in the Soccer America Women's Top 25.
Santa Clara is ranked No. 1 in the Soccer America poll, but third in both coaches polls, the NSCAA/adidas National Rankings and in the SoccerTimes.com Top 25 poll. SCU is fourth in Soccer Buzz's poll.
After Mizzou's trip to the Bay Area, they will return home to get ready for No. 12 California and TCU next Friday and Sunday, respectively. Tickets for Sunday's 1 p.m. match, like every Sunday match this fall will only cost $1.
