By the looks of the crowd in the Hearnes Center on Wednesday night, it was hard to tell only a scrimmage was occurring. A crowd of over 1,000 got their first look of the 2007 Missouri Volleyball squad as the Black team took the practice match 2-1. In addition, over 250 youths took part in a pre-match clinic featuring the Tigers.
The play, consisting of the two teams, had mixed rosters match-to-match. One player could play for the black team in one game and for the gold the next for example.
For scoring sake, the black team won 30-25, 30-25, 18-30, clinching the match after the second game.
Freshman Weiwen Wang (Nanjing, China) led the field with 15 kills on the evening, hitting around .333, adding a block as well in her combined efforts with both teams.
Sophomore Amanda Hantouli and senior Na Yang had 14 kills apiece, sophomore Julianna Klein scored on 13 kills.
Sophomore Megan Wilson (Lincoln, Neb.) led the group with three blocks.
Lei Wang paced the black team to a .343 and .385 hitting percentages in games one and two. Luiza Jarocka set the gold team to a .429 hitting margin with no errors in an errorless game three.
The Tigers open the 2007 campaign next Friday at the Magnolia Classic in Oxford, Miss. On the first night of the tournament, Mizzou will play host Mississippi before playing Jacksonville State and Arkansas State on Saturday.
