Mizzou Players Complete Solid Season In Women's Professional Soccer League

Columbia, Mo. - Several Mizzou soccer players completed successful seasons for the St. Louis-based River Cities Futbol Club of the Women's Professional Soccer League this summer. Highlighting the season, current Tiger Kat Tarr (Vancouver, Wash.) and future Tiger Katya Hessel (Edwardsville, Ill.) earned honors throughout the summer.

Tarr had a good game against F.C. St. Louis, in the clubs' second meeting of the season. Tarr played suffocating defense and added an insurance goal in an 8-0 RCFC victory. Tarr was named to the WPSL Team of the Week for the week of June 27th.

Earlier in the month, Hessel scored the game-winning goal in her first start of the year in a RCFC win over F.C. Indiana. She received honorable mention recognition for the week of June 8. Hessel scored three goals and added one assist in six games for RCFC over the summer season.

Missouri Tiger soccer players Meghan Pfeiffer (Chesterfield, Mo.), Ashley Hamblin (Cedar Rapids, Iowa), Janelle Cordia (Columbia, Mo.) and Tasha Dittamore (Granite City, Ill.) also played for RCFC.

The WPSL is a 38-team national women's soccer league with five conferences and is the highest level of women's soccer in the United States while also holding the distinction of being one of the top leagues in the world.

Mizzou's first home exhibition match is set for Tuesday, Aug. 21 against Indiana at 7 p.m.
