COLUMBIA, Mo.--University of Missouri junior Tyler Dailey (Joplin, Mo.) earned a spot on the 2007 ESPN the Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-America® Cross Country/Track & Field Team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Tuesday. Dailey is one of only 45 in the country to be named to one of the three named teams, earning a place on the second team. For four-consecutive years, the Missouri Track and Field teams has had at least one person named to the list.

 

Dailey has maintained a 3.76 cumulative GPA in the biology field at the University with an emphasis on pre-medical school work. Dailey, a four-time Big 12 scorer, earned All-America honors during the indoor season via a ninth-place showing at the NCAA Indoor Championships with the weight throw. Dailey has also qualified for the NCAA Mideast Regional for three-consecutive seasons in the hammer throw.

 

Dailey was named to the Big 12's "Good Works" team earlier in the spring for his work in the community. Among working with the Central Missouri Food Bank and Habitat for Humanity, Dailey also has worked as a volunteer at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans' Hospital in the past two years, escorting patients and giving hope to those in distress. Dailey has also lent a hand to many local sporting events including the Show-Me State Games and Special Olympics and has helped coordinate the MS-150 Bike Ride the last three years.

 

The CoSIDA Academic All-America Teams program honors 816 male and female student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA, the College Sports Information Directors of America; a 2,000-member organization consisted of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.

 

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Division I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
