Mizzou's Chase Daniel On Maxwell Watch List

June 25, 2007

Columbia, Mo. -

University of Missouri junior quarterback Chase Daniel was named today as one of 65 standout college football players who are on the pre-season watch list for the 71st Maxwell Award, as announced by Maxwell Football Club President, Ron Jaworski.

Daniel (Southlake, Texas) is coming off a record-setting season that saw him break school records for passing yards (3,527), total offense (3,906), passing touchdowns (28) and touchdowns responsible for (32), among others.  A second-team All-Big 12 selection in 2006 in his first year as a starter, Daniel and his Tiger teammates ended the year ranked eighth in the NCAA in total offense, while Daniel was fifth individually with his record-breaking numbers.

The Maxwell Award has been presented to the outstanding collegiate football player in America since 1937 and is named in honor of Robert W. "Tiny" Maxwell.  Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn won the award in 2006.

Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced in early November and three finalists for the award will be announced November 26th, with the winner being announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show on December 6th.  Watch list candidates have been chosen by the Maxwell Football Club's Selection Committee.
