DES MOINES, Iowa--The Missouri track and field squads travel to the prestigious Drake Relays this weekend in Des Moines, Iowa. Now in its 98th year, the Drake Relays has always been a favorite for the Mizzou track teams and with an amazing performance at last year's meet on the back of the minds of the Tigers, Mizzou could see some great memories again coming fro, the Drake.

Nicholls Looks to Build On Unbelievable Weekend

It's not too often you can lay claim to three personal bests and two national records in a weekend, but that's what Tiger junior Shernelle Nicholls accomplished at the Kansas Relays last weekend.

 

On Thursday, Nicholls added 12 feet to her personal best in the hammer throw to claim Barbados national-record No. 1 with a 191 foot toss. On Friday, Nicholls won the shot put with a breakthrough-performance, throwing for 55-¼ to claim another Barbados national record and jump to No. 6 on the NCAA-performers list. On Saturday, Nicholls completed the `hat-trick' with a 163-10 marking in the discus in a third-place finish.

 

Also, missed in the shuffle of a busy weekend was Jason Morris. The Tiger earned his first NCAA-regional qualifying mark of the season with the discus, throwing for 171-4. Morris has also qualified for the regional via the hammer throw.

 

Some Quick Notes from the Arkansas Invite

Along with the Kansas Relays, a handful of Tiger middle-distance and distance runners participated in the Arkansas Invitational in Fayetteville. Among some of the more notable performances from the meet, senior Marcus Mayes clocked a 1:48.65 in the 800-meter run to place him No. 9 in the NCAA entering this weekend. The Tiger finished fourth in a great race that also featured former Tiger Neville Miller, who placed third.

 

Sophomore Angela Potrykus earned an NCAA-regional qualifying time in the women's 3000-meter steeplechase, clocking 10:46.91.

Each week we'll look at which Tigers qualified for the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships, being hosted this year by Mizzou at Audrey J. Walton Stadium, May 25 and 26.

 

Through two weeks, 16 Tigers have qualified with 20 marks for the regional.
