LAWRENCE, Kan.--Lore says April showers bring May flowers, but the Missouri track and field team wouldn't mind if some fantastic performances come out of what should be extraordinary weather at this weekend's Kansas Relays and Arkansas Invitational. The same horrible weather that has plagued the Major League Baseball season and other events East of the Rockies has also messed with the Big 12's track and field season. While a bulk of the team will be at the Kansas Relays, the most from the Tiger middle-distance contingent will be at the Arkansas Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.

 

 

Moll Runs Provisional 10k Mark in California

On Friday, senior Valerie Moll clocked a 34:47.12 in the 10,000-meter run at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. The 10-time Big 12 scorer holds a time that would place her in the national top 25 and currently is the leading time in the Big 12 Conference.

 

Nickoley Readies For A Homecoming

Junior Trisa Nickoley (Tecumseh, Kan.) returns to the Kansas Relays this weekend for the first time since 2004 when the then-high school senior clocked a 2:06.67 in the 800-meter run. That time was the third-fastest in the nation for a prepster in `04. Nickoley won 17 Kansas High School titles in her time at Shawnee Heights High School, ranging in distances from 400 to 1600 meters.

 

Nickoley currently holds the seventh-fastest time in the nation and the second-best in the Mideast region with a 2:05.37 clocking from the Arizona State Invitational back in March. Nickoley won her second Big 12 Indoor title at the distance in February.

 

Sommerfeldt Secures Mizzou's 10th-Straight Year with Decathlete over 7,000

Senior Bjorn Sommerfeldt's NCAA-provisional qualifying decathlon score of 7,027 last weekend at the Audrey J. Walton Combined Events secured a great statistical feat for Mizzou. It marks the 10th-consecutive season that at least one Tiger has scored over 7,000 points. Only a handful of schools around the nation can claim the same feat.

Each week we'll look at which Tigers qualified for the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships, being hosted this year by Mizzou at Audrey J. Walton Stadium, May 25 and 26.

 

Through two weeks, 12 Tigers have qualified with 15 marks for the regional.
