ST. LOUIS - The Missouri soccer team claimed its fourth consecutive Hazelwood Tournament title in St. Louis on Saturday, April 7, after an impressive 7-2 victory over Indiana. Freshman forward Kristin Andrighetto notched a hat trick to lead the Tigers while Michelle Collins, Mallory Forst, Mo Redmond and Kat Tarr each added a goal apiece.
Indiana got on the board first as they scored five minutes into play. After Mizzou tied the game, the Hoosiers again went ahead, 2-1, before the Tigers again tied the score and eventually went up 3-2 to go ahead for good.
"We feel the team showed great maturity in being able to come back after being down twice in the first half. They showed tremendous composure and were able to capitalize on several scoring opportunities. We are hoping to continue to build on this for the remaining games this spring and look forward to playing River Cities FC and Notre Dame."
Redmond set up Andrighetto's first goal, splitting two defenders in the corner before crossing. Andrighetto also showed great composure on a break-away goal, slipping the ball by the Hoosier keeper.
The rest of the match, Mizzou continued to create and capitalize on scoring opportunities with a total of 27 shots on goal. Forst converted a penalty kick after being fouled in the box.
Throughout the game, the Tiger defense held strong. Goalkeeper Tasha Dittamore continues to be a force in the net, making seven saves for the day.
The Tigers continue spring play as they host River Cities FC of the Women's Premier Soccer League on Sunday, April 15, at 11:00 am at Walton Stadium.
