Columbia, Mo.- Senior Sarah Stringer (Auxvasse, Mo.) hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning to help lead the Tigers past Wichita State 10-3 completing the sweep of the doubleheader, and improving the Tigers record to 16-9. The homerun was the second of the day for Stringer who tallied eight RBI during the two games. Earning the win for the Tigers, sophomore Megan Dennis (Liberty, Mo.) pitched five innings, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out two batters. With the victory, Dennis improves to 5-2 on the season.
With the score knotted at three, senior Leanne Bowers (Arnold, Mo.) hit a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth to put the Tigers ahead for good. The homerun was her fourth of the season, and her second hit of the day. Bowers also added two runs. Coming on in relief for the second time on the day, freshman Jana Hainey (Raymore, Mo.) pitched one inning allowing no runs on zero hits. The Tigers used a two-run double by junior Micaela Minner (Sanger, Texas) to start a five run rally in the bottom of the sixth helping the Tigers pull away from the Shockers.
Freshman Alana Jacobsen (Crocker, Mo.) finished the game in the circle for the Tigers, allowing no Shocker batters to reach base while recording one strikeout. The Tigers are now 15-2 all time against the Shockers, and 4-0 on the season as the Tigers topped them twice at the Clarion Inn Ladyback Invitational.
The Tigers will travel to Tempe Ariz. this weekend to participate in the Pac 10/Big 12 Showdown where the will square off against Washington and Arizona State.
