Box Score

Tucson, Ariz. - Led by junior pitcher Taryne Mowatt (8-3), the Arizona Wildcats used a five-run second inning to top the Tigers 8-1 at Hillenbrand Stadium. Mowatt pitched seven innings allowing two hits, one run and striking out 14 Tiger batters. The second-ranked Wildcats improve to 13-3 while the Tigers fall to 14-8.

Junior Amanda Renth (Mascoutah, Ill.) continued her hot play at the plate tallying one of the Tigers two hits, driving in teammate Katie Milles (St. Louis, Mo.) in the top of the sixth inning. The RBI double gives Renth a total of 24 on the season, which leads the team. Renth also added to her walk total taking two bases on balls, giving her three in the last two games.

Pitching for the Tigers in relief of Megan Dennis (Liberty, Mo.), freshman Alana Jacobson (Crocker, Mo.) made her 11th appearance of the season. Jacobsen pitched 4.2 innings allowing only five hits and two runs while not walking a single Wildcat batter. The outing was the best performance of the season for Jacobson, who had a 5.56 ERA before the game.

Dennis, who led the team in ERA coming into the game, struggled to find her location all night. Dennis walked three batters and hit another in 1.1 innings giving up five runs. Dennis also threw 42 pitches, 19 of which were strikes, and was credited with the loss giving her a 4-2 record.

Leading the way for the Wildcats, Caitlin Lowe went 2-4 registering four RBI, picking up three in the second hitting a three-run triple down the line. With the win the Tigers fall to 1-8 all time against the Wildcats.

The Tigers will try to avoid the sweep tomorrow when the teams meet at 11 a.m. The Tigers will then head home for a doubleheader Wednesday, March, 7 against Wichita State, who the Tigers topped in two previous meetings this season at the Clarion Inn Ladyback Invitational. The Tigers won the first meeting 8-2, and later held off the Shockers in the Championship match 10-7.
