Tigers Come From Behind for 5-2 Win over Louisville

Louisville, Ky. - Despite early morning thunderstorms, the Missouri softball team (24-17, 1-0) began game one of its doubleheader with Louisville (16-14) on time and came from behind to take a 5-2 win over the Cardinals at Ulmer stadium. Junior pitcher Jen Bruck (St. Peters, Mo.) earned her third straight victory (8-4) after throwing her fourth complete game and striking out six.

Louisville scored two runs on three hits in the bottom of the third frame. Dropping both balls in right center field, starting pitcher Kristen Wadwell opened the inning with a double and scored on Audrey Rendon's triple.

Tiger junior Amanda Renth (Mascoutah, Ill.) helped Missouri to a one run lead when she crushed a three run home run over the left field wall in the sixth inning. The crush was Renth's 12th of the season and marks the sixth game of the campaign in which she's tallied three or more RBI. Senior second baseman Sarah Stringer (Auxvasse, Mo.) extended Missouri's lead to two runs, reaching on a fielder's choice and scoring on senior catcher Kathy Masterson's (St. Louis, Mo.) sacrifice fly to right field.

Missouri tacked on its final run of the game in the seventh inning. Batting from the nine hole, right fielder Julie Silver (Chesterfield, Mo.) reached base on balls to open the inning and scored on Renth's sacrifice fly to center field.

Game two of the doubleheader will begin at approximately 4 p.m. (CT).

Missouri will continue conference play with a two-game home stand against No. 9 Texas Saturday, March 31 at 2 p.m. (CT). Fans are encouraged to arrive early as parking near University Field will be limited due to the Missouri Relays (track and field) held at Audrey J. Walton Stadium.
