The Missouri women's basketball team has been selected to participate in the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT), as announced by tournament organizers late Monday night.
Missouri (17-13) will face the winner of the Nevada-Wyoming game in the second round of the tournament on March 16, 17, 18 or 19. The date and location are still to be determined due to the MSHSAA Class 1, 2 and 3 Basketball Championships at Mizzou Arena all day Thursday-Saturday.
This marks the seventh postseason appearance for the Tigers in the last eight years - all under Head Coach Cindy Stein. This is Mizzou's fourth WNIT appearance and first since advancing to the quarterfinals in 2003. The Tigers are 3-3 all-time in the tournament.
Nevada, which is making its first-ever postseason appearance went 17-14 overall and 10-6 in the Western Athletic Conference. The Wolf Pack finished third in the league and have posted their best record since the 1999-2000 season.
Wyoming went 21-9 this season and tied for second in the Mountain West Conference with an 11-5 record. The Cowgirls are making their second-consecutive WNIT appearance and fourth overall.
For the first time, each of the nation's 31 conferences will be represented in the WNIT. The tournament expanded to 48 teams this year to accommodate an automatic berth for each of the conferences, which the Tigers earned the Big 12 berth. Mizzou is one of 16 teams to receive a first-round bye.
