Columbia, Mo. - The 68th-ranked University of Missouri women's tennis team fell to No. 30 Colorado, 6-1, Saturday afternoon on the Green Tennis Center's outdoor courts. Mizzou falls to 5-4 on the year and 1-3 in the Big 12 with the loss.
The Tigers do not have a lot of time before their next match; they host Louisville Monday at 5 p.m.
"We've got to bounce back from this (loss) quickly, Louisville has a good squad," Mizzou Head Coach Blake Starkey said after the match. There was one bright spot in today's loss; it came in the No. 2 singles spot.
Senior Amanda Pratzel earned the Tigers' only point in the match, as she beat Camila Belassi, 6-1, 6-3. The win was Pratzel's fourth in a row and fifth in her last six matches. She now sits at 10-12 overall and 6-3 in the spring.
The Tigers lost every other contest, however, and lost the match, 6-1. At No. 1 doubles, Katelyn McKenzie and Raquel Wagner lost to Belassi and Torres Torres, 8-4. Pratzel and her partner Erika Josbena fell at No. 2, to Franziska Jendrian and Monica Milewski, 8-2, and Kaitlin Dunham and Chrissy Svetlic fell to Melisa Esposito and Martina Sedivec, 8-5.
In singles play, Josbena had her hands full with Milewski, who was named the Big 12 player of the week last week. Josbena jumped out to a 6-2 lead behind her good serves and strong forehands. Milewski responded, however, and won the next two sets, 6-2, 6-2, to take the match.
At No. 3, Svetlic lost, 6-2, 6-4, to CU's Veera Nurmi. Dunham lost at No. 4, 6-1, 6-0, Wagner lost at No. 5 and McKenzie lost at No. 6.
