Tigers Post 2-1 Record at Iowa Bubble Tournament

IOWA CITY, Iowa - In its first action of the spring, the Mizzou soccer team posted 2-1 record at the Iowa Bubble Tournament in Ames, Iowa on Saturday, Feb. 24. The Tigers picked up wins against Drake and North Dakota State after falling to Iowa in the tournament opener.

Against Iowa in Mizzou's first game of the day, a slow start put the Tigers down 2-0. Mo Redmond blazed a shot from outside the 18-yard box to into the net to avoid the shutout.

Mizzou dominated play against in its second game against Drake, tallying a total of 19 shots on goal in a 2-0 victory. Off a Mizzou throw-in in the 34th minute, Michelle Collins beat two Drake defenders and slotted the ball in the lower left corner past the goal keeper.

A few minutes later, Redmond won the ball at midfield, took off on the dribble and ripped a shot from outside the 18-yard box and into upper right corner of the net for the final goal of the game.

Missouri struck early against North Dakota State with a goal in the second minute. Kristin Andrighetto beat a Bison defender one-on-one and drove a shot low at the net. After the ball bounced off the keeper, Collins corralled the rebound and got off a quick left footed shot to give Mizzou the early lead.

In the 34th minute, Andrighetto again sliced through two NDSU defenders and slotted a shot past the goalkeeper for a 2-0 Tiger advantage. After Andrighetto's second tally of the match, the Tigers closed out scoring when Meghan Pfeiffer sent a cross to a slashing Breanna Thornton, who then put the ball by the goalie at the near post.

"It was so exciting to play our first spring games," Head Coach Bryan Blitz said. "We were able to see how all the hard work the girls have put so far is beginning to pay off. Their development as players and as a team is encouraging. It was a great platform and preparation into our first outdoor game coming up."

Mizzou continues its spring schedule on against SEMO on Saturday, March 10 at 2 p.m. at the Walton Stadium.
