Missouri Softball Team Travels West For Stanford Invitational

Feb. 16, 2007

Columbia, Mo. - Improving to 4-3 on the season after taking two wins over UMKC Wednesday, the Missouri softball team looks to add even more victories to the win column beginning Friday, Feb. 16, at the Stanford Invitational. One of four teams competing in the three-day tournament, the Tigers will open action at 2 p.m. (CT) against Pacific before taking on host and 12th-ranked Stanford at 6 p.m. (CT). Day two of the tournament will begin Saturday, Feb. 17, at Noon against Santa Clara.

Missouri's appearance at the Stanford Invitational is its third in five seasons. The Tigers are 1-9 in the tournament, recording their only win in 2003 in the opening game against Penn State (3-1). In 2004, the Stanford Invitational hosted the exact same field as this year's tournament and Missouri opened then as it does now against Pacific.

Down 3-2 in the all-time series with Pacific, Missouri's last meeting with the Tigers came last season when Missouri took the win, 3-2, at the Worth Wildcat Invitational in Tucson, Ariz.

Entering the tournament, six Tigers hold above a .300 batting average with senior catcher Kathy Masterson (St. Louis, Mo.) leading her teammates with a .563. Masterson has notched two triples on the season, the second coming in Wednesday's fist game of the day against UMKC. To date, Masterson has recorded seven triples in her four year career at Missouri and stands just three shy from entering Missouri's career triples record book at 10.
