COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of Missouri Cheerleading and Golden Girl squads are headed back to nationals. After submitting competition tapes to the National Cheerleaders Association/National Dance Association earlier this year, both Mizzou squads, along with mascot, Truman, were selected to participate in the 2007 NCA/NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Just 17 dance squads, 14 cheer squads and five mascots advanced to the Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championships, which will be held April 4-8 at the Brandshell Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla. The competition will be televised on CBS.
For the Tiger Cheerleaders, the appearance at the NCA/NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championships marks their eighth consecutive berth to the national competition. The Tigers have finished in the top 10 in each of their last six trips. The Golden Girls will go searching for their third national crown. The nationally-recognized Tiger Dance Team won national titles in 1991, 1992 and 2003.
Mizzou's mascot, Truman, is making its third appearance at the Championships in the last four years. Truman was named the National Mascot of the Year in 2003 and enters this year's event seeded No. 1 among mascots.
