IRVING, Texas - Missouri sophomore Kendra Melnychuk was named the Big 12 Conference Women's Diver of the Week for meets of Nov. 27-Dec. 10, as announced by the league office on Wednesday.
Melnychuk won both the 3-meter springboard and 10-meter platform competitions at the Georgia Fall Invitational in Athens, Ga. two weekends ago. The native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan collected 283.80 points on the 3-meter and 250.35 on the platform. She finished third on the one-meter with a score of 264.15.
This marks the first diving award for a Tiger this year following Bennett Clark's Swimmer of the Week honor on Nov. 8.
Melnychuk joins former Mizzou standouts Kristy Wanner and Anna Massey as the only women to claim the diving award from the league office. Last season Evan Watters was named Big 12 Diver of the Month on the men's side for November and January.
Other award winners this week included: Michael Klueh (Texas) was honored as the men's Swimmer of the Week and Eric Sehn (Texas A&M) Diver of the Week, while on the women's side, Elizabeth Tinnon (Texas) won Swimmer of the Week. The student-athletes were chosen by a vote of the league's head swimming and diving coaches.
