Twelve University of Missouri football student-athletes have earned their way onto the 2006 Academic All-Big 12 Football Team, as announced by the league office.

 

Mizzou placed 10 people on the league's all-academic first team, which is the third-highest total in the league, trailing only Nebraska (1st - 15) and Texas (2nd - 14).  Additionally two Tigers were named to the second team.

 

Additionally, the 10 first team members equals Mizzou's most ever as part of the Big 12, matching the total that Head Coach Gary Pinkel's squad amassed in 2002.  Yearly first team members since the inception of the Big 12 for Mizzou include:  1996 (5), 1997 (4), 1998 (5), 1999 (6), 2000 (4), 2001 (8), 2002 (10), 2003 (6), 2004 (8), 2005 (4), 2006 (10).

 

Tigers on the first team include QB Chase Daniel, PK Jeff Wolfert, P Adam Crossett, LB Brock Christopher, OL Kurtis Gregory, WR Andrew Hoskins, OL James Stigall, OL Phinney Troy, OL Dain Wise and DB Darren Meade.  Second-team members for MU include TE Chase Coffman and TE Jon Gissinger.  This marks the third time that Crossett has earned first team honors, and the second for Hoskins.

 

First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better grade point average, with the second team consisting of those with a 3.00 to 3,19 GPA.
