It was recently announced that Mizzou's Associate Athletic Director for Compliance Mary Austin, has been named to the NCAA Division I Amateurism Fact-Finding Committee. She joins other staff members at Mizzou that have been named to NCAA Committees.
Director of Athletics Mike Alden currently serves on the NCAA Management Council, the Amateurism Clearinghouse Committee and the Initial Eligibility Trends Committee. Senior Associate Director of Athletics Sarah Reesman is on the NCAA Division I Championships & Competitions Cabinet and Barbara Rupp of Campus Admission serves on the NCAA High School Review Group.
Austin is in her 25th year at Mizzou and seventh heading up MU's compliance efforts, where she is responsible for the compliance office which provides education assistance to student-athletes, parents and the Mizzou campus and athletic community regarding rules and regulations.
Austin serves as a member of the Professional Sports Counseling Panel and acts a liaison to the NCAA and the Big 12 Conference.
In the spring of 2003, Austin was selected by her peers to receive the Division I National Association of Athletic Compliance Coordinators Outstanding Achievement Award for her outstanding work in the field. Austin's commitment to the student-athlete was acknowledged in 1999 when she received the Mick Deaver Award, given annually to individuals on the MU campus who stand out for fostering student relations. Citing her expertise in eligibility and financial-aid issues, she has been an invited presenter for NCAA and Big 12 Conference compliance seminars and has served as an expert consultant to other universities.
